Carousel dress pattern – Oliver and S

At the moment there are 2 lovely dresses in the shop, both the same size and pattern using different fabrics. We always make up samples to show off patterns and fabrics and we instantly fell in love with the new Oliver + S Carousel dress pattern.

We used Essex yarn dyed fabric and it has a lovely linen texture and is mixed with the cotton fibres offering a different, slightly heavier weight than 100% linen. This texture gives it an extra resilience which is perfect for clothes. Although it does say ‘wash in cold water’ on the end of the bolt, this may be because of the colour stability. It’s something we’ll have to test and report back!

When I saw these dresses I preferred the charcoal essex yarn dyed to the Dusty blue coloured fabric, but in the photographs, I love how the dusty blue dress reminds me of Jackie O!

Melinda did a great job making these up and the detail of a floral button at the back and floral bias binding tab at the side are lovely little touches. ┬áThe only one thing on the pattern that she had to think twice about were the pockets, they are cut slightly bigger than the space so they don’t sit flat to the dress, if you weren’t experienced at sewing you may think it was the wrong size but it actually goes together like a dream!
